  Task 1

The lines illustrate the historical pattern of Americans using 6 types of energy and the projections for the foreseeable future.

First, with Americans using petrol and oil increasingly [“独立主格结构”作状语], the usage has overall increased [引入“现在完成时”] from 35 quadrillion to roughly 40 quadrillion units, despite two slight falls. [不要把线切碎]  The growth is projected to continue, and the predicted usage for 2030 is 50 quadrillion units.

Second, since the initial difference that [引入“同位语从句”] 20 quadrillion units of natural gas and 15 quadrillion units of coal were used, the two fuels have both reached the point of 25 quadrillion units in similar ways. [不要把两条线拆开,而是“模糊”地写: 能够保证信息的简洁] In the future, the consumption of natural gas is likely to stabilize, while that of coal is expected to grow further to 30 quadrillion units.

  [注意主语的多样性]

In addition, renewable energies, hydropower, wind or solar energy and nuclear power, [引入“同位语”] have also been used, although their consumption has been insignificant, between 3 and 7 quadrillion units [不要把三条线拆开,而是“模糊”地写: 能够保证信息的简洁]. By 2030, the respective levels are forecast to stay unchanged.

Overall, Americans have relied more on petrol and oil than on coal and natural gas, and least on clean energies, and this pattern is unlikely to change until 2030.

  Task 2

Some people think getting older is entirely bad. Others, however, think the life of the elderly is better than in the past.

Discuss both of the views and give your own opinion.

抛除“八股”的行文:People get old. 长短句搭配 However, getting old is not necessarilyfrightening; contrarily, many retirees now live a decent life. 开头何必大篇幅!!

讨论反方观点,先让步: It is reasonable that some people are constantly anxious about their retired lives. Illness is their primary concern. Even though they may not be bothered bymedical conditions, they will not be as physically energetic and active as they are. Therefore, they worry that the life quality will be unsatisfactory. 再转折: However, the downside is notthe complete picture; they should also look at the upside. When they get old and retire, they will no longer need to deal with annoying colleagues, superiors or clients. Nor will they sit at the workstations for long hours. Another benefit is that they will no longer have to commuteduring the rush hours.

As a matter of fact, the elderly today lives a proper life with good nutrition, advanced healthcare, emotional nourishment, and diverse entertainment. 接下来逐个解释: Today,  malnutrition has gone; instead, the supply of food is sufficient, and the food is rich in nutrients. 长短句搭配 Second, medical care can take good care of the elderly. ←措辞时一定要避免“官腔”,而要“白话” → Meanwhile, today’s seniors receive the community’s generous respect and tolerance, and they have an open mind to try a variety of modern recreational activities. This life is quite delightful. 长短句搭配 Thus, today is far better than the past, when old people were more likely to be discriminated.

At this point, it is fair to believe that people do not have to age like milk and instead can age like fine wine. Since getting old is inevitable, it is better to adopt an optimistic attitude than to be pessimistic.
