As the operating room doctors and nurses put on gowns to ginger up for the operation the gossip centered around the glamour of accomplishing the first human skin graft on a gorilla. The usually gloomy mood in the room was absent as the eyes of everyone were gleaming with excitement. When they all moved out into the actual operating room it was as if they were gliding under the glare of the lights.

Gabby the Gorilla was lying on the table unconscious. She was a gorgeous gorilla from the country of Borneo. Her ginger tinted hair glistened. When the chief doctor stepped up to her side he looked up to the observers and once again graciously explained the significance of the operation. He was so confident when he spoke that it seemed as if he was preaching the Gospel to a crowd of unbelievers. Any gloom in the observers was erased.

Just before the chief doctor began he allowed photographers one more chance to take pictures. The glitter of all the cameras caused his eyes to glaze over for a moment. When his eyes had recovered, the chief doctor picked up the surgery tools that were stored in a box as cold as a glacier. Then, once more wiping his brow of the moisture coming from his sweat glands, he held up his tools to make the first cut. Everyone took his or her place around the table for what was sure to be a long operation.
