Nowadays a large quantities of movies have been adapted from books. Would you choose to read the original book before watching the movie? Or would you intend to see the adapted film first? Personally speaking, watching the film before the book will be my preference. I am going to articulate my reasons in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, watching the movie before the book enables viewers to save a multitude of time, which serves as a precious asset in today’s fast-paced society. It is apparent that, in comparison with reading the entire book, people invest less time in acquiring an overall understanding of the whole story through a two-or-three hour adapted film. If they are intrigued by the movie and decide to read the original book, their reading process will be fairly swift. Meanwhile, possessing no interest in the movie, viewers will luckily never have to waste more hours in the book. For example, at the beginning of last summer vacation, I had planned to read one or two classic novels in English. Before reading the 600-page classic novel, Gone with the Wind, I chose to watch its adapted film starring Vivien Leigh. This three-hour film not only equipped me with the whole picture of the grand story, but also stimulated me to finish reading the thick novel as soon as possible. And at the end of that summer break, I had accomplished reading as many as six English classic novels in total by using such method, and even managed to fulfill a large number of other stimulating tasks!

Furthermore, reading experience can be enhanced by watching the movie ahead of the book. This is primarily because movies are able to vividly present plots or images which are beyond our imagination in books. If they watch adapted movies first, never will readers be confused in comprehending numerous detailed description about character appearance or background settings in novels about ancient times, such as the Chinese masterpiece The Dream of the Red Chamber, and the famous Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Similarly, lively pictures from a dozens of scientific fiction movies enable readers to smoothly follow and be fully immersed in the plots of the original books. It is no wonder that many advanced sci-fi readers highly recommend to watch The Martian film before reading the book.

Admittedly, someone may assert that reading the book before the movie will be a more satisfying choice, because reading the book ahead facilitates viewers to have a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the overall plots. However, I still prefer to choose the other way around for such sequence can save time as well as promote reading experience.
