英语中有时为了强调突出表语，常常采用倒装的结构，即：把正常的主+系+表的语序变化成表+系+主。
例如：

为了特别强调这门课程把四部分都包含在内，可以将其提前，变成表语倒装句：
The studies of speaking, writing, reading, and listening are included in this course.
在托福阅读中，长难句常常涉及到事实细节题或推理题的答案判断。表语倒装作为长难句中较为简单的一种，当同其他的句子结构混在一起时，倒装结构的辨认就有一定的困难。有时会对阅读速度产生一定的影响，因此，对于想要突破高分的考生们，在长难句的判断上尤其需要多加重视。
1. Basic to any understanding of Canada in the 20 years after the Second World War is the country's impressive population growth．
此句的倒装较容易辨认，由于basic为形容词，考虑此句为表语倒装，还原成正常语序后，可以看出the country’s impressive population growth是主语，而Basic to any understanding of Canada in the 20 years after the Second World War是表语，整句的意思为：
要理解二战之后20年中的加拿大，就必须了解该国惊人的人口增长。
2. Coincident with concerns about the accelerating loss of species and habitats has been a growing appreciation of the importance of biological diversity，the number of species in a particular ecosystem，to the health of the Earth and human well-being．
此句的倒装辨认比较困难，因为整句的逗号较多，词组较长，还使用了插入语结构。因此不少考生会因此错判句子主干，造成理解困难。在分析此句时，同样首先注意到首单词coincident为形容词，可以考虑表语倒装结构。以系动词has been为界限，之前为表语，之后为主语，还原成正常语序后，整句的结构变为A has been coincident with B（A和B同时发生）。再单独分析较长的主语成分：发现其中存在插入语，该插入语是对逗号前的词组biological diversity的解释说明，先将其忽略不看，然后找出固定词组the importance of A to B（A对B的重要性），由此分析出整句含义：
