一、我们先来看一下这个句子：Consequently, I prefer working in large company to working in small company.咋一看好像这句话没有什么错误，意思也顺畅，但是，该句犯了一个很多考生在托福写作中常见的错误：可数名词单用。
所以，该句正确的表达应该是：Consequently, I prefer working in large companies to working in small companies. company这个词是可数名词，所以在使用这个词时，要不就用复数，要不就得在其前面加冠词a或者the。再如，之前有学生写过这样一句话：Keeping pet is valuable in helping person relax after a hard day’s work.这句话逻辑上没什么问题，但是中间有两个词有问题：pet，person。这两个词都是可数名词，不可以以单数形式出现在句中，所以，应该把它们分别改成：pets和people(persons)。
二、我们先来看SAT的一个语法题：Alice Guy Blache, an early filmmaker, introduced close-ups and double exposures, also she set cars on fire, used rats in special effects sequences, and ran film backward. 这个句子也是犯了很多考生在写作里面会出现的错误：用逗号连接两个独立的句子。在这个句子里面，also she前面是一个独立完整的句子，后面也是一个独立完整的句子，所以用逗号连接是错的，应该是：Alice Guy Blache, an early filmmaker, introduced close-ups and double exposures; she also set cars on fire, used rats in special effects sequences, and ran film backward.所以，分号可以把两个独立的句子隔开，而不是逗号。
再如，An article suggests that The Great Gatsby was not read during the 1930’s, the reason was that the novel described a lifestyle made extinct and frivolous by the current Great Depression. 首先，The reason was that the novel described a lifestyle made extinct and frivolous by the current Great Depression. 是一个完整的句子，不能用逗号连接，所以，正确应该是：An article suggests that The Great Gatsby was not read during the 1930’s, because the novel described a lifestyle made extinct and frivolous by the current Great Depression.在两个独立的句子中间加一个逻辑连接词because，方可把两个句子连接起来。
