GRE填词中，冒号什么情况？

GRE填词中，巧用冒号，就可以迅速破题。不信，你看下面这道（单空6选2）题：

In his heyday, Sonny Bono’s role in public was _____: he was an accomplished lyricist, a mayoral success story, delegate from Palm Springs, and the husband of an internationally acclaimed vocalist.

A. protean

B. versatile

C. pedestrian

D. prominent

E. circumscribed

我们找到冒号，它出现在空的后面。冒号的功能是什么？冒号之后的内容是对冒号之前的内容的具体说明。那么，我们读懂冒号之后的内容，把握住内容的核心意思，就可以判断空白处的词应该是什么，空白处的词应该是对冒号之后的内容的一种浓缩性的性质性的评价。就这道题而言，我们发现冒号后讲到了 Sonny Bono 这个人的多种身份：lyricist、mayor、delegate、husband，所以答案是：A选项. protean 和 B选项. versatile。
