rise from the ashes 从灰烬中升起；东山再起

      在希腊神话传说中有一种叫菲尼克斯（phoenix，又译为风凰）的不死鸟，这种鸟体大如鹰，一身火红和金黄的羽毛，艳丽无比，叫声悦耳，寿命很长。菲尼克斯每500年从阿拉伯飞往埃及，在埃及焚化自己的父亲或者把他埋入用阿拉伯松香做的蛋内。

      还有的神话说，菲尼克斯每活到500岁或1461岁或7006岁就会用香树枝和香料筑巢，然后点火自焚，烧完之后，就会从灰烬里飞出一只恢复青春的、新生的菲尼克斯。所以在现代英语里，phoenix象征“永恒；再生”；而to rise from the ashes表示“复活；新生；东山再起”。

      He’s irrepressible. Whatever you say or do to him, he rises phoenix –like from the ashes
      （他是不可压服的，不管你怎么说他，怎么对待他，他总会重新挺立起来。）

The politician, showing no signs of disappointment at losing the election, promised that his party would quickly rise from the ashes.
    （竞选失败后，这位政治家丝毫也不气馁，他保证说他的政党很快就会重建起来。）

After a few years of active reconstruction, many famous cities rose from the ashes of war.
    （经过几年积极重建，许多城市都在战后重建了。）
