　　Many parents choose to teach their children at home instead of sending them to school. Do you think the benefits of home schooling outweigh its drawbacks?

　　Sample

　　Recently, there is increased popularity of home schooling, that is, children are taught at home instead of going to a school. However, the issue has both pros and cons, and should not be judged one-sidedly.

　　There are a few advantages of learning at home, especially on academic perspective. To begin with, home schooling contributes to high learning efficiency. Parents are more able to create an individualistic learning pattern of their children. For example, by observing the performance, habits and attitudes toward learning, parents can arrange a more flexible and suitable curriculum without giving a wide range of subjects and courses. Besides, less pressure is another benefit in this case. Children are mostly too vulnerable to cope with heavy pressure. Learning at home well cater for such feature of children as it avoids the peer pressure of classroom education.

　　However, just as every advantage has its disadvantage, the drawbacks of the practice cannot be ignored. Firstly, the teaching quality of parents can hardly be comparable with the teachers who have received professional training. Therefore, the provision of a systematic teaching plan and the handling of the learning difficulties cannot be well fulfilled in many cases. It is likely that the fact results in a demotivation of young learners. Also, the lack of a group environment hampers the development of children’s other capabilities and skills. For example, the interpersonal skills are discouraged when there is inadequate communication with peers. The cultivation of co-operational attitude is impossible as well.

　　From what has been discussed above, I have to say the drawbacks of the development outweigh the benefits. I am convinced that there is more than mere knowledge accumulation in children’s education. The development of practical skills and proper values is also indispensible. So parents must make a careful thinking before they make decision on whether to choose home schooling.
