The Jazz Player爵士乐手
Chesters triumph lay not in the fact that he was a good musician, or even that he could sing, although he could truly do both of these well. Chesters success was due to the fact that he knew what people wanted from a jazz musician and they tuned to the local radio station to hear him. In addition, whenever he performed, people would troop into his tropical café to feel in tune with life at the end of a busy working day, and didnt seem to mind that Chester occasionally played out of tune with the rest of his band, or that his drinks were expensive—often to the tune of double his nearby competitors. Perhaps it was because Chester always seemed to have a new tune to offer them, and that he never seemed to mind the troublesome guitar player who sometimes took a long time to tune his instrument. At such times Chester would sit on a trunk on the stage, tell jokes to his audience, and triumph that he didnt have to play with knobs and tubes on his instrument or wear fancy trousers to be noticed. A troop of customers would often then move around the floor playing imaginary trumpets. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that Chester could trumpet jazz better than anybody.
