  托福口语考试中大部分是大学校园场景,这当然也成为了大家备考的核心,but...当出现「工作类」话题时就容易不知所措,今天小new就来给“偏科”的同学补补课。

  Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Boss should maintain close friendship with employees?


  AGREE

  老板是否该和他们的员工保持亲密的友谊?首先我们从正面的角度想想,如果员工和老板做朋友有什么样的好处呢?老板可能会和员工更有默契,更了解彼此,这样会大大提升作为团队合作的效率。另外,员工可能更愿意为公司效力,因为更信任自己的“boss friend”,这样公司的发展会更有前景。

  I totally agree that they should maintain close friendship. First off, friends know each other better and can build greater compassion and respect through their personal relationship. So employees may be more engaged and committed to supporting the boss, because of the mutual respect and appreciation they have for each other. For example, if someone in the team opposes the final decision of the boss, as friends, employees may be more likely to stand by his or her side and offer him or her courage, which everybody needs. When some emergency happens, friends would fight together to overcome the difficulties, because they trust each other.


  DISAGREE

  持反对意见的同学也可以说,亲密的朋友关系,可能会带入到工作之中,影响工作中竞争的公平公正,让真正有实力和潜力的员工失望离开。

  Close friendship between a boss and employees can also throw the balance off of the whole team. Members of a team or department who don't experience this close friendship may feel jealous and left out, and potentially feel they are being side-lined or not seen and appreciated.

  除此之外,亲密的关系,可能会影响上级向下级传达工作内容时候的威信,甚至在朋友出现重大工作失误达到了需要解雇的情况时,也很难说出口,这样更会影响其他员工对老板的看法。

  Friends can disagree and choose not to go the same route, but as management you need to be able to discipline the employees. Something that is extremely difficult if they are also your friends. In addition, it is hard to fire a friend. You cannot debate which is more important: the friendship or the job performance. At work, there is only one answer. So stay professional, not personal.
