In some parts of the world, owing to the economic boom, people’s living standard has been largely improved, while such a development also leads to the loss of some significant social values. Personally, the demerits of economic blossom can be offset by its merits.

Generally，the prosperity of economy contributes positively not only to people’s material in daily lives but the spiritual enrichment. Materially, economic development serves as an indispensable catalyst for creating jobs, mitigating poverty. Accordingly, people can afford better clothing and footwear, enjoy a rich feast of all delicacies, live in spacious houses as well as get the latest electronic gadgets. Meanwhile,thanks to fatter tax collections as the economy recovers, strides can be made by the government in perfecting social welfare system and enhancing infrastructure. Mentally, when citizens get satisfaction in matter life, highly civilized spiritual life has become what people pursue. In the past, never would the general public imagine going to a movie, a concert or a museum, but now, with abundant materials benefited from economic growth, such cultural consumption can be easily accessible.

Undeniably, accelerated economic development is a chief culprit for the erosion of some important social values. Primarily, economic development render people more rapacious financially , which occasions excessive exploitation of natural resources with a view to satiating the infinite needs of industrial production. Sadly, many people, when lured by colossal economic incentive, would turn a blind eye to the environmental deterioration. Worse still, economic accumulation would tempt people to seek other irrational excuses to obtain materialistic satisfaction which includes luxuries like fancy handbags and limousines with whopping price. In this case, the weight on economic prosperity and consumerism , a devastating blow to traditional values such as frugality, is bound to shape a money-oriented society .
