Aftergrowing dramatically to a peak of5.2 mkt in 2011. the figure declined by 0.4 million tonnes in 2013. It thenrecovered slightly, reaching5 mkt in 2015. Sea transport followed a broadly similar upward trend. Its volume peaked at 4.5 million tonnes in 2011. which was comparable to that ofroad transport two years earlier. Followinga minor drop to4.2 mkt in 2013. its figureremained relatively stableuntil 2015.

　　Rail transport, by contrast, experienced much less significant changesduring the period. Althoughit was the dominant means of transport in 2001 (1.5 mkt), its figurewas surpassed by road and sea respectively in 2003 and 2004. falling far behind the other two modes. Aftera steady increase to 3 mkt in 2011. the volume transported by rail remained unchangedin the next two years, before falling to 2.5 mkt in 2015.
