In AD 200 during the late Eastern Han Dynasty,
公元200年，东汉末年
To avoid fighting a war on two fronts（Liu Bei and Yuan Shao）, Cao Cao decides to attack Liu Bei first, and swiftly defeats Liu in Xu Province.
为了避免两边作战，曹操决定先攻打刘备，在徐州速胜刘备。
Liu Bei flees north to join Yuan Shao, while his family is captured by the enemy.
刘备北逃，投靠袁绍，但是家眷被敌人所俘。
Liu Bei's sworn brother Guan Yu conditionally surrenders to Cao Cao to uphold his oath of brotherhood and preserve his honour.
无奈之下，刘备义兄关云长为存忠义甘作俘虏，被迫为曹军上阵。
Months later, Yuan Shao leads a large army south to attack Cao Cao and both sides clash at the Battle of Boma.
数月之后，袁绍攻打曹操，双方白马激战。
In that battle, Guan Yu slays Yuan Shao's general Yan Liang and receives an honorary title of "Marquis of Hanshou" from Cao Cao for his effort.
白马之战中，关羽挥剑斩颜良，曹操封他为汉寿亭侯（汉寿地名，亭侯候名）
Cao Cao hopes that Guan Yu will continue serving him and showers him with gifts and rewards, but is rejected by the latter.
曹操希望关羽能够继续为他效劳，对关羽重加赏赐，但是关羽还是拒绝了。
Cao Cao is unable to stop Guan Yu and gives orders for the defending generals at the various passes to let Guan Yu through.
曹操不能阻止关羽，就下令不同关口的守关大将，不让关羽通关。
关羽被逼无奈，过五关，斩六将，与刘备会和，这就是在我们家喻户晓的“过五关斩六将”和“千里走单骑”的故事。
Guan Yu then embarks on a dangerous long journey through the passes to reunite with Liu Bei.
