环保在托福写作中不是一个罕见的话题了，然而过往考题经常会问到的是，个人要如何行动才能更好保护环境等偏生活化的问题。这次的考试稍微拔高了主题，问的是环境保护和经济发展之间的关系。大家可以从日常从网络上获取的资讯中寻找灵感，构成论述和例证。

How to strike a balance between economy growth and environment protection has been a timeless topic of debate, ever since industrialization. Some environmentalists argue that satisfying economy to save the earth is the one thing to do, without doubt. Meanwhile, others argue that economy is more important. Personally, I side with the latter idea, because economy is top priority in almost every aspect of society, including environment protection.
To begin with, economy growth is the only way to guarantee quality life for all humans reside on earth. Self-evident as it is, protecting environment essentially means protecting us human, because the earth needs no protection and can sustain on its own. The extinction of dinosaurs caused by asteroid strike sufficiently illuminates the point – the earth will always be the survivor. Thus, naturally we come to this question: how can we better protect human, if most people are still suffering and when money can solve the problem? Economy growth is the only key to several problems that the majority of population are faced with. Starvation, medication, and education, all of those could not progress without vast amount of investment. Hence, if we want to provide better living environment for human, we should first provide better living conditions for them, and economy growth cannot be conceded in this aspect.
Further, economy growth could contribute to the protection of environment. Surprisingly but true, economy growth does good to the environment in some aspect. Nowadays, with the propaganda of cleaner energy, electric cars are the new chic. However, the most-known electric car – Tesla- does not represent cheap toy. The high-tech battery installed raises the overall cost of manufacturing the car, and future maintenance and replacement of the battery also bring large bills. Everyone wants to drive environmental-friendly, but only a few of them can afford to. To bring down the price and make batteries cheaper, more research is required. Every step of the way, money is cried for. Simultaneously, companies are obliged by laws and regulations to use environmental-friendly process to manufacture, which inevitably requires new production line and equipment. Again, we need money to make such improvement happen.
All in all, it is not wise to satisfy economy growth for environmental concerns. I am not saying that environment protection is not significant, but there are better ways.
