12.5的独立写作是一个能源环境类话题，在2020年度整年的独立写作中出现了两道，还有一道是12.20日的题目。此题考的是环境中比较常见的清洁能源和传统能源的选择问题。我们这篇文章选择的是清洁能源，首先论证的是清洁能源显然从长远来说，对环境保护起了巨大的作用。其次，用让步方式回应反方提到的传统能源价格便宜的问题。我们这里的思路参考了TPO22综合写作听力部分的内容，认为价格贵可以靠政府对清洁能源的补贴来解决，考虑到环境保护，这个钱是花的非常值得的。

Thesis Statement:
we should use cleaner energy sources to protect the environment.
Modern life relies heavily on energy sources in any sphere of life. The debate about whether we should keep using traditional energy resources or not is a pressing one today, as many people are realizing the downsides of traditional resources and seeking methods that work with environment. In the long term, for the purpose of energy conservation and sustainable development, people ought to make joint efforts to replace traditional energy sources by cleaner ones.
Firstly, there is every reason to emphasize the urgency in protecting the environment. Social development relies tremendously on the exploration and utilization of natural resources. The rapid pace in economic development has led to unprecedented high rate of energy consumption. The burning of fossil fuels is a major cause of global warming which disrupts the global climate and raises the sea levels. Under no circumstances should these shocking facts go unrecognized by the government. Continuing this trend, nature creates a hostile environment. If people are not careful, it will come around and bite them. Cleaner energy sources like solar power and wind are not only environmentally friend but also renewable. Undeniably, if solar products are manufactured for ordinary households on a large scale, pollution will be reduced and nature will be preserved as well. Therefore, promoting cleaner energy sources is a wise decision.
Opponents of my view may argue that traditional energy resources are better in the light of their cheaper price. I admit that gasoline and coal have price advantage over solar and wind power do. They have ignored the fact, though, that the price advantage is not always there. In fact, the government can give subsidy to cleaner energy, making its price the same or even cheaper than that of traditional energy. This support will encourage more people to choose products of cleaner energy. Once enough people buying solar or wind energy, producers will increase their production of cleaner energy. Generally, increased production of products leads to a drop in its price. Therefore, the price of cleaner energy will go down as more of it becomes available. Studies show that, if solar production can be three times greater than it is now, the cost of producing a unit of Solar will drop by forty percent. Maybe, someday in the future, the support from the government will not be needed anymore. Considering the benefits brought by cleaner energy resource and the costs invested in rehabilitating the environment, I think that the pay is worthwhile.
Taking into all the reasons listed above, I advocate that cleaner energy resources are better than traditional energy resources.
