The best way to keep road transport safe is to make vehicle drivers have a driving test each year. Do you agree or disagree?

It has been argued that drivers are supposed to take annual tests to prove they are qualified to drive their cars safely on the road and this is considered to be the best solution. From my own perspective, this idea may contribute to road safety, but whether it is the best way remains debatable.

Annual tests can be an effective way to reduce dangerous driving because having tests every year helps drivers enhance their understanding of traffic rules and raise their awareness of the dangers of reckless driving as well as informs them of any changes. If careless drivers, who are responsible for many accidents, were consistently tested and reminded, there would certainly be fewer road fatalities.

However, a mandatory driving test may not be the best way to reduce road accidents. One significant drawback is that in order to pass the written tests, drivers may spend much time memorising road laws, which is both time-consuming and exhausting. Besides, it is insufficient to only educate the drivers about complying with the traffic regulations since accidents can also be caused by pedestrians and bikers. A Typical example is jaywalkers, who are to blame for many car crashes at intersections and on highways.

In order to render this initiative more appealing and broaden the education scope, the government could implement live broadcasts and internet-based programming to disseminate audio and video clips relating to safe driving in a more engaging and informative manner. In these ways, not only could drivers enjoy the process of improving their knowledge of safe driving, but citizens who do not drive private cars could also be guided on road safety.

In conclusion, making annual driving tests compulsory is a viable way to improve road safety, but it is not necessarily the best way.
