题目：Some people think that older school children should learn wide range subjects and develop knowledge, while other people think that they should only learn a small number of subjects in details. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Education has never failed to trigger discussions among the public, and there have been arguments as to whether older students should be required to study all school subjects or they should be allowed to choose a few subjects.
Some people claim that it is unnecessary for school students to spend time studying a wide range of courses on the ground that not all young people have the ability to learn all those academic su bjects. As a consequence, this practice could cause stress which would have an unfavorable effect on their attitude towards study, or even worse, it would result in a loss of self-confidence if they keep failing in the tests. In contrast, studying the subjects of one’s interest is more effective and also enables students to specialize in one field where they may be able to achieve something remarkable.
Persuasive though this may sound, it should be mentioned that the main function of high school is to prepare students for university. By exposing to various subjects in school, they can have insight into diverse fields, which allows them to make better decision when it comes to choosing major in university. For example, even if a student is passionate about language learning and is determined to become a translator, he or she will benefit from studying other subjects as they might be required to translate documents concerning areas like geography and biology.
Furthermore, even though students may find some subjects difficult, the experience of dealing with the challenges can be valuable to them. Everyone will encounter situations where they have to do things that they dislike or that they are not good at in their work or life. And quite often people do not realize their potentials until such time.
Therefore, I think older school students should be encouraged to study all subjects so that they are well-prepared for future study and their life as well.
