The graph below shows three production in the forest industry in a European country. The production is timber, pulp and paper during the years from 1980 to 2000.

First, the production of timber and that of paper had almost identical patterns of change. ←总到分→ There was a continuous growth from 5 million to 10 million tonnes in the production of timber, and the 5 years between 1995 and 2000 witnessed an accelerated growth. An overall growth of a similar scale also happened in terms of the production of paper. During the growth from 4 million to 8 million tonnes, there were 5 years (1990 to 1995) when the production stood still at 6 million tonnes.

Pulp had a vastly different pattern of change. The production wasvolatile throughout the period, ←总到分→ as a surge from 5 million, where the production of timber began, to 8 million tonnes happened in the beginning and a plunge to 4 million tonnes, a sluggish slide and a slow growth back to 4 million tonnes one after another afterwards. It is noteworthy that the production became the smallest during the years when it plummeted.
Overall, the country produced increasing amounts of timber and paper and witnessed a decline in the production of pulp.
Task 2
Some people claim that competitive sports, such as football, could bring different ages and cultures together. Others believe that competitive sports cause some problems to groups and nationalities.
Discuss both of the views and give your opinion.
Competitive sports are thrilling, and many international games, such as the FIFA world Cup, are worldwide sensations. It is an alarmist view that those games cause interracial or international conflict. Instead, those games should be seen as opportunities for the worldwide unity across the diverse backgrounds.
The alarmist view is not unreasonable, since the rivalry on the sports field may be brought to the real life and develop into mutual hostility. “纵向展开”，即不断把中心句的意思细化：The victory of one side and the defeat of the other may bemisinterpreted by the spectators to be the capability and inability. This is where the hostility begins and possibly deteriorates into resentment. However, people who mistranslate deficiencies in training into racial inadequacies are not themainstream. Although they cannot be disregarded, they are unimportant. In addition, the hostility usually does not last long, and people will not hold a grudge.
As a matter of fact, competitive sports create the fusion of cultures. Although the athletes are rivals in the games, they pursue the same goals, and behind the pursuit are their shared ideals [倒装]. [pursuit对应pursue] The common ground contributes to the friendly interaction of cultures. [common ground 对应shared ideas] The friendship will further extend outside the field. Some people will even learn the languages their idols speak and the cultural practice. In addition, therivalry is not everything between teams or athletes; instead, there may be mutualadmiration. Ture athleticism is respect and learning from each other.
At this point, competitive sports may [此处不表可能性，而是表让步] cause some minor conflicts, which are however [副词，表“相反地”，放在后面的形容词前] temporary. In a long term, people bond, regardless of their different ages and cultures.
