Landfilling is the most popular method in Toronto, with about three quarters of the waste being disposed of by it, and this high percentage is in violent contrast with the low ones of other methods, ranging between 7% and 11%. The same is the case in Amman, where almost half of the waste winds up in the landfills.Incineration, second popular in these two cities though, is used for 39% of the waste in Amman while only 11% in Toronto.

In Madrid and Kuala Lumpur, the most intensively adopted method is incineration, as either 40 percent or 60 percent of the waste is incinerated here. In the rest refuse, 25 percent is taken to landfills, even less split between recycling and composting. Notably, none of these four cities dispose of over 10% of their waste by compositing, and in the case of Amman, the figure is merely 2%.
