It was a banquet to remember. All the soldiers from the barracks said this, even though the barometer read 40 degrees and a bandit had stolen the main dish, barbeque ribs. They were quite angry about this at first. But after the bandit was discovered to be the bastard son of the local river barge driver, the soldiers handed him over to his father who then banished the bastard son from the base to spend a week in the barren basement of their old river home. But all the excitement didnt spoil the banquet. It just got it started.

The food was wonderful. First came a large plate of bamboo, then a turkey with it's beak covered in sauce. Everyone was able to taste each dish. And, as the soldiers beckoned each other to taste other meals, such as barley bread and a large batch of batter-fried river bass, no one cared about the beads of sweat that were rolling down their faces due to the hot weather. They were just enjoying themselves and the good food.

When the escaped bastard son of the river barge driver barged in to eat some food before he had to again run away from his father, the soldiers only laughed. No one cared about the fresh bandage on the bastard's head or where it came from. And no one set up any barricade to slow down the bastard's escape from his father.

The only thing that temporarily stunned the soldiers was the appearance of a dish of fried beetles. They all looked in silence, not knowing if the dish was a joke or not. Then they decided that they didn't care, laughed even louder, and ate the beetle dish as heartily as the others.

Yep. That was a banquet to remember.
